We (Texans) would, too. I hate to admit, part of the issue with all this is optics and timing. As you so aptly note, we're not two weeks following a devastating weather episode, with hundreds of thousands still reeling. Even subjectively, the timing and roll-out of the governor's decision made many of us feel completely abandoned by any semblance of our governance. Local mayors and county judges have been superheroes over the past year, and the inability to find lock-step between local and regional leadership has been embarrassing. I've seen a lot about 'toxic individualism' and especially in a highly individualized, wildcatting state like Texas, everybody is disappointed but very few people are surprised. Thanks for sharing this!
