The concept you're really getting at in this piece (and thank you for writing on it — we need more of that on Medium) is being "donor-centric." That's the term we use in philanthropy. It involves *a lot* of differentiation since there are many "faces" of donors — "faces" as in, the type of donors out there. Check out Prince and File's study from almost 30 years ago on this:
