Medium Got Rid of App Editing, but You Can Still Write on Your Phone

You may have noticed, Medium updated its app — yes, again. One of the sweeping changes is that you can no longer write/edit stories. (See the penultimate paragraph, here.)

I wasn’t aware of this until Alexander M. Combstrong pointed it out, because I do most of my writing here on my iPhone Safari browser. You may be thinking…

“That never works for me! It either brings me to an uneditable version of a draft, or when I click “Edit Draft” it opens a Medium Help Center page!”

That was my experience too. Until one day I accidentally turned on my iPhone’s “Desktop Website” feature. (For optimization and ease, your phone’s browsers are automatically set to “Mobile Website” mode.)

How? On your phone’s Safari browser, on the search bar — either at the top or bottom of Safari — look for the two “A”s. See here:

On your phone, go to your “Stories” page where your drafts live. Once there, press on the two “A”s, and a small menu will appear. One of the options will be “Request Desktop…
