How we OUGHT to be at work
A story of professional commitments
It took longer than I expected to fully understand who I am as a professional—the better part of two decades. At work, the earliest me aspired for a quick ascension up the hierarchy, filling in knowledge gaps along the way.
I traversed positions on a somewhat obvious path, moving from coordinator to manager to director and so on.
This worked, for a time. The first decade (or so) of my career was spent navigating interesting roles, largely within one industry — the arts.
This was the way until a colleague, a mentor of sorts, would challenge me and help shape my future.
And so me became Me.
This newfangled Me has been evolving into one who understands there is no true end to growth. In this way, as I continue to develop, I also see how important it is to develop others.
It is a brilliant, organizational cycle, replete with all boats raised by the collective tide.
This Me pursues an expanse of connection, professional development, and an understanding that continual growth stems from a posture of possibility. A posture of aspiration.
A posture of what ought to be.
