An Open Letter to Ev Williams

I have some words for you about things

Dear Namesake,

Listen here. I don’t know who you think you are, creating and refining and improving a platform that hundreds of thousands of writers can utilize freely and openly. But I think it’s about time for some brutal honesty.

Even though it’s the season of giving and kindness, I have half a mind to fuss with you. I write dozens of stories on here each month and not every single one gets curated or receives thousands of views.

Why?

How dare you.

It doesn’t matter that this platform is clean, simple, and user-friendly.

It doesn’t matter that over 40,000 articles are posted on here every single day by seasoned and emerging writers alike, giving us all an opportunity to read, learn from, and grow alongside eager, talented minds.

It doesn’t matter that many of us have the chance to work with publication editors who are kind, gracious, and, often, working for free.

I’ve had enough.

Someone finally needs to be truthful. Someone needs to be straight about all this, because if not, more people will publicly announce they’re leaving Medium only to publicly announce their return five minutes later.
